Aligning Grades with Standards to Increase Accuracy - Meeting Room 7 & 8

The accuracy of grades fundamentally depends on the quality of the assessment(s). In this session, you learn how aligning assessments with standards create an accurate picture of student learning. When we know the purpose of both our assignments and assessments and their alignment to the course’s essential standards, our grades become accurate and informative.

Building Confidence in Grades and Grading Practices - Meeting Room 9 & 10

The standards-based grading journey starts when we (teachers) adopt a mindset that allows us to let go of our traditional grading practices and replace them with standard-based grading practices. In this session, you will learn where a traditional grading practices mindset falls short, both mathematically and in terms of accuracy. This session will be both reflective and pragmatic with examples from Dr. Stewart-Ximines’ own journey toward creating a standards-based grading classroom.

Ensuring Grading Practices are Equitable for Students - Exhibit Hall C

In this session, participants will be challenged to reimagine and reinvent their grading practices to increase instructional effectiveness and expand educational equity to impact all students. This presentation leads attendees through an inquiry cycle to reflect on and learn grading practices that promote fairness, accuracy, and increase student motivation. In addition, attendees will leave with a cache of digital and searchable resources to carry the conversation back to their school and district.

In this session, you will learn how one teacher made the transition to a standards-based grading system in a traditional digital grade book environment.
